about

So strange, how creativity works.

I often intend to make one thing and find that something entirely different emerges, no matter how strong my original intent. This piece sprang from my intent to create another entry in the whimsical Drama Llama series. Those songs are purposefully quick in terms of composition and creation, to help me build the habit of regularly making and releasing music.

I started noodling on the piano with a melody that came to me in the shower that Sunday morning, with a plan to carry it over onto synthesizers once I was happy with it. However, as I worked on the music, I became more and more compelled by the sound of the piano itself. The sketch itself became the thing. The more I thought about how to adapt it, the less I wanted to do so. I ended up adding very little in the way of ornamentation, leaving it simple and meditative.

Drama Llama will hit the road again at some point... but will have to find a different ride.
